Motherwell: Striker David Clarkson returns to Fir Park

Clarkson spent last season with Dundee

Motherwell have brought another former player back to Fir Park by recruiting David Clarkson after the striker was released by Premiership rivals Dundee.

The 29-year-old began his career with Motherwell and was on trial there last summer only for previous manager Stuart McCall to decided against an offer.

He went on to join Dundee, where he scored in all of his first eight games.

But Clarkson only scored once more all season and was released at the end of the campaign.

He joins Keith Lasley, Steven Hammell and Stephen Pearson as players who have returned to the club.

Striker Scott McDonald, who returned to Motherwell for the second half of last season, is still in talks about extending his stay.

Clarkson told the Well website: "It's a place I know and that is close to my heart.

"I had a meeting with the gaffer and the staff and they told me their philosophies and the way they want to take the club forward and that is something I want to be part of."

Clarkson hit 56 goals in his first, seven-year spell at Fir Park before signing for Bristol City in a £700,000 transfer in 2009.

He spent time on loan to Brentford before a permanent switch to Bristol Rovers then a return to the Scottish top flight with Dundee.
