Kilmarnock: I'll prove I am not finished - Kris Boyd

Kris Boyd says he wants to prove he is not finished after joining Kilmarnock for the third time.

The 31-year-old striker scored just 10 goals last season as Rangers failed to win promotion to the Premiership.

"It didn't work out last year but my drive and determination is still there," Boyd told BBC Scotland.

"I'm not happy at how things worked out at Rangers. I can look myself in the mirror and say my performances weren't the greatest."

Boyd, who began his career at Rugby Park, has signed a two-year deal, with the option of another 12 months.

Reflecting on a disappointing second stint at Rangers, he added: "There were four or five strikers and none of us were scoring.

"It's easy to pinpoint the strikers but when you look at the team overall it wasn't good enough.

"Dealing with three managers in the space of a year wasn't great for anyone. It made it difficult for everybody and players were in and out of the team."

Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke has set Boyd a target of 20 goals for the season, a tally Boyd surpassed in the 2013-14 campaign with the Ayrshire side.

He said: "It's a good opportunity for me, at this stage of my career I want to be playing regular football. The last four or five months that's not been the case.

"The manager has been relentless all over the summer to get me here.

"I know if given the opportunities I'll score goals. It doesn't bother me if I miss them, I'll always keep going back.

"Last season the chances were few and far between. I did have chances, I missed them, but I don't think anybody could say I was hiding.

"I want to get over that 100 goals for Kilmarnock. I managed it at Rangers and I'm only a few short of it at Kilmarnock."

Boyd's form in season 2013-14 helped earn him a call-up to the Scotland squad for a friendly with Norway, although he did not add to the 18th cap he won in 2010.

"It was a surprise the last time," he admitted. "Over the years Gordon has praised the way I work, the way I do things.

"For me right now Scotland is way off the mark. After the season I've had I'd be ashamed to show myself as a fan never mind as a player.

"If I get my head down here and start scoring goals you never know what can happen.

"The biggest thing for me is to prove I'm not finished."
