Sunderland have signed Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old, who has agreed a four-year deal with the Black Cats, will end his second spell as a Spurs player.

The move comes seven years after the Frenchman's agent said his client, external "wouldn't join Sunderland even if there was an earthquake".

Meanwhile, Sunderland defender Santiago Vergini has joined Spanish side Getafe on a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old Argentine had joined the Black Cats from Estudiantes in 2014, and his move to Getafe is with a view to a permanent switch.

In total, Vergini made 51 appearances in 18 months at the club.

France international Kaboul, who has been at Tottenham since rejoining from Portsmouth in 2010, has played 140 games across his two spells with Spurs.

He said: "I'm delighted to be a Sunderland player and it's an honour to join this club."
