Crystal Palace have signed striker Patrick Bamford from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal.

Bamford, 21, signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge before making the move across London.

He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored 19 goals and was voted the Championship Player of the Year.

Bamford is Palace's second summer signing after the £10m arrival of Yohan Cabaye from Paris St-Germain.

"When I met with manager Alan Pardew, he put forward his plans and it was an easy decision," said Bamford.

"I like to get in behind the defence. I would say I am deceptively quick, but I am sure they will make their own minds up. I do like to score goals, so hopefully I will be able to do that a lot here."

Bamford is an England Under-21 international but missed the recent European Championship because of injury.

He joined Chelsea from Nottingham Forest in 2012 for £1.5m and has spent time on loan at MK Dons and Derby County.
