Oxford United 1-1 Crawley Town

  • Published

Crawley made a positive start to life in League Two after relegation as they claimed a draw at Oxford.

Gwion Edwards headed the visitors in front after Lee Barnard's persistence had kept alive a seemingly dead attack.

Last season's top scorer Danny Hylton levelled things nine minutes later, after Danny Rose's fine pass.

Oxford had few clear chances, but Kemar Roofe's late shot drew a good save from Freddie Woodman, who also did well to deny Johnny Mullins from the corner.

Crawley Town boss Mark Yates told BBC Surrey:

"There's plenty more to come from us and there are things we want to get better, but it was a tough place to come.

Mark Yates: Crawley boss after draw with Oxford United

"We've absolutely worked our socks off, we've switched off once and we got punished.

"The game plan we had the boys absolutely nailed it and they were brilliant and I commend them all, from one to 18 in the group they were magnificent.

"The attitude has been brilliant and we've had a tough summer for this club, with recruitment and I'll hold my hands up, but it's where we are."
