Craig Noone's superb free-kick helped Cardiff City beat AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the League Cup.

Noone followed his spectacular equaliser against Fulham on Saturday with an equally impressive strike in first-half injury time.

Cardiff substitute Kenwyne Jones missed a chance to double Cardiff's lead as his shot was saved by James Shea.

Tom Elliott had Wimbledon's best opportunity with two minutes left but headed the ball against the bar.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade: "It's always a difficult one, the first round of the League Cup, because there are shocks galore.

"A lot of Championship clubs make a lot of changes. Sometimes you can't get that fluency you're looking for.

"It was very, very patchy but we managed to get the job done and that was important."
