Championship chumps

Where do you start when trying to summarise that?

Four-time League Cup winners Nottingham Forest losing 4-3 to Walsall perhaps? How about Burnley, just relegated from the Premier League, losing to League One Port Vale?

Throw Oxford humiliating Brentford into the mix, plus Luton knocking out Bristol City, Notts County dumping out Huddersfield, Shrewsbury winning at Blackburn and Burton defeating Bolton and you have one very memorable night.

 James Bree fires Barnsley into round two in the battle of the League One sides.

And still Barnsley and Scunthorpe go on. 6-6 now on penalties, with both sides missing one each.

A masterclass of penalty taking at Scunthorpe with them and Barnsley level at 5-5. Who will lose their nerve?

An absolute horror of a penalty by Accrington's Matt Crooks as he blazes over from 12 yards. A sad way for the League Two side to exit as Championship Hull get away with one.

Another upset as League Two  York beat League One Bradford 4-2 on penalties, while Rochdale beat Coventry on penalties.

Hull and Accrington into sudden death after missing two penalties each.

We have four shootouts going on and Billy Kee has just had a penalty saved for Accrington against Hull. Back level there.

Fulham are one the few Championship sides not on the wrong end of an upset as Alexander Kacaniklic puts them 1-0 ahead at League Two Wycombe.

Charlton are another from the second tier enjoying themselves, although Dagenham's Christian Doidge has pulled the score back to 3-1. Surely just a consolation.

Super Cup thriller

Incredible scenes over in the Uefa Super Cup. Barcelona were 4-1 up but Sevilla have rallied to make it 4-3 with 15 minutes remaining.

We've just heard the attendance at Accrington is 2,118. And of those 1,097 are Hull fans who've made the trip across. 

A decent turnout indeed.

Perhaps there won't be a shock here after all as Andrew Shinnie finishes from close range to put Championship Birmingham back ahead at League Two Bristol Rovers.

MISSED PENALTY!! Alan Sheehan steps up but lashes his spot-kick over the crossbar. Not good.

A brilliant run from debutant left-back Myles Kenlock but his cross flashes untouched across the face of goal.

Since the equaliser it's been all Ipswich. League Two Stevenage are hanging on after taking the lead against their Championship opponents - now David McGoldrick's header is saved.

GOAL - Bristol Rovers 1-1 Birmingham

The Gas were in the non league last season but they are now level against Championship Birmingham as Ellis Harrison converts. A shock on the cards perhaps?

GOAL - Luton 3-0 Bristol City

An embarrassing evening for Championship Bristol City as Jack Marriott gets his second of the evening to put League Two Luton 3-0 up.  

An evening full of shocks and here is another one...

Another sublime finish. This time, Swindon Town's Jon Obika fires home from 25 yards to halve their deficit against League Two Exeter.

Bury are back on level terms - a header from Leon Clarke putsthem right back in it.

It really isn't a good night for Championship sides. Paul Benson finishes low to put League Two Luton 2-0 up at home to Bristol City.

The Championship side are fielding almost a full-strength side, while Luton rang the changes...

And we are back under way in the 20:00 BST kick-off at Bolton. 

Already a half chance for Burton to break the deadlock - Lucas Akins fires one over from the edge of the box.

GOAL - Wolves 2-1 Newport

Championship side Wolves started with a wobble, but they are looking like they can swat aside their League Two opposition. 

Benik Afobe nets from the spot.

No sign of an upset at London Road, either -  Marcus Maddison has doubled the home side's lead and they are looking comfortable. 

GOAL - Huddersfield 1-2 Notts County

Another Championship club in real trouble as Liam Noble lobs home a stunner from 45 yards to give League Two Notts County the lead. Brilliant.

Jacques Maghoma scores his first goal for Birmingham  to put them 1-0 up at Bristol Rovers, while Charlton go 3-0 up against Dagenham with a goal through Zakarya Bergdich.  

League Two side Hartlepool take the lead through Billy Paynter , who heads in. League One side Fleetwood in a bit of trouble.

Hello, we might have to wind back the number of upsets on the cards - Ipswich have levelled at home to League Two Stevenage. 

Josh Yorwerth with it on his first ever senior game.

It isn't going well though as League Two Luton still lead Championship Bristol City. The Hatters hit the post from a free-kick as they look for a second.

CUPSET and match. This one is done. Might as well throw in the towel and call it off early, ref. Brentford have been panned.

And here's another Championship side who look safe to make the next round - Sheffield Wednesday increase their lead through Kieran Lee. The two-goal cushion restored.

No upset here.

It is a game of spot-kicks at Scunthorpe. This time it is the hosts who score from 12 yards as Paddy Madden cancels out Josh Scowen's penalty for Barnsley minutes later. Extra time looming? They aren't the only ones with 15 games level at the moment. Late night anyone?

He was the brightest player in the first half and Sammy Ameobi's been threatening again already. The Newcastle loanee flashes another shot over the bar on his debut.

League One Wigan (what on earth happened there?) take the lead at home to Bury through a Will Grigg  penalty.

Not long gone in the second half, but League Two side York have levelled against League One Bradford, as Luke Summerfield keeps his composure to net from the peanlty spot.

Bright start from Championship side Hull at League Two Accrington Stanley (at the not-so-brilliantly named Wham Stadium). 

But the hosts respond in kind with a lovely move of their own. Keep a close eye on this one if it's yet another upset you're after...

Article 13.4 of the Capital One rulebook states that an extra 30 minutes shall be played in the event of the scores being level after 90 minutes.

If the extra period doesn't separate the sides, it goes to penalties.

What's been the difference between Cardiff and Wimbledon this first 45 minutes? A cracking  Craig Noone free-kick. The Championship side had been knocking and now they lead.

Championship side Rotherham take the lead on the stroke of half-time as Jordan Bowrey heads home against the League Two side.

It looks like there will be no shock at  Charlton  though as Karlon Ahearen-Grant puts the Addicks 2-0 up at home to Dagenham and Redbridge - his first senior goal.

Unlucky. Early Championship leaders MK Dons go behind - the fifth one from that division to do so this evening - at home after Dean Cox's cross is diverted into his own net by skipper Dean Lewington.

The League Two side cock-a-hoop!

This game got going a little later than the others tonight - a 20:00 BST kick-off - and it's the home side who've been leading the way. 

Bolton have hit the woodwork three times already. So much for third time's a charm...

Another shock on the cards as Alex Nicholls latches onto Tom Nichols' lay off and calmly finishes to put League Two Exeter 1-0 up at League One Swindon Town.

A great chance for Ipswich to level almost straight away goes begging - Brett Pitman sees his shot go agonisingly wide after beating his man. 

A goal on his debut? What a brilliant time it would have been to get it - just before half-time.

A shock on the cards at Portman Road? League Two Stevenage take the lead through a Christophe Berra own goal . Dean Parrett's shot was saved but it came straight back in off Berra. 

It's a very lucky one but they all count.

Three early strikes but nothing since, Championship side Brentford will be pleased to have stemmed the flow of Oxford goals. The League Two side in the ascendancy and will be very pleased by their first half performance so far.

Shocks on the cards?

What is going on? Four-time League Cup winners Nottingham Forest are the latest to fall behind to lower league opponents. Tom Bradshaw taps home from close range at the far post to give Walsall the lead.

WHAT A GOAL!!! Brentford goalkeeper Jack Bonham is having an absolute 'mare tonight. 

Again he comes out to meet the ball, heading it out from the edge of the area to around 40 yards out, Kemar Roofe takes a touch and lobs it into the net. 

Superb technique. Brentford all over the place.

Decent chance for the hosts as Brett Pitman flashes a header wide from Larsen Toure's cross - both players making their debuts tonight. 

GOAL - Brentford 0-2 Oxford

Another for the visitors!! This is a real surprising scoreline so far. The Rotherham goalkeeper comes rushing out to clear the back, which ricochets off the onrushing Danny Hylton and into the net.

Wasn't pretty, but the Oxford fans won't mind.

Neil, Basildon: The best League Cup experience of my life was when Southend United beat Manchester United 1-0 and Freddy scored THAT goal.... Amazing free kick sent Utd packing and the Shrimpers into the quarter final..... The worst cup experience... Going to White Hart Lane to see us robbed as we could have beaten them at a penalty shootout!

Phil Parkinson and his Bradford side start their League Cup campaign at Bootham Cresent, looking to rekindle memories of their marvelous run to the final in 2013.

Although they were soundly beaten by Swansea on that day, the Bantams rewrote history in reaching the showpiece.

They one of only two fourth-tier league sides to have reached a League Cup final along with Rochdale in 1961-62.

John, London: I think for Wycombe fans there is no greater League Cup memory than our semi-final run under Paul Lambert in 2006-07. Especially getting a draw against league champions Chelsea in the first leg. Came not long after our FA Cup semi-final run too. I think we are overdue another....

'Beast Mode On'

They call him 'The Beast'. Why? Well Adebayo Akinfenwa is 5ft 11in, weighs 16 stone, and can bench press 180kg (28 stone). 

He's also the strongest player in the Fifa series of football video games, with a strength rating of 97 out of 100.

BBC Sport profiled the 33-year-old striker after he scored for Wimbledon against Liverpool in last season's FA Cup.

"Beast Mode On is a state of mind," he explained. "Beast Mode is about applying yourself and defying the limitations people put on you."
