Lukasz Fabianski signs new four-year Swansea City contract

Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has signed a new four-year contract.

Fabianski, 30, had an impressive first season with the Swans after joining from Arsenal in May 2014.

The Poland international's new deal will keep him at Liberty Stadium until June 2019.

"Lukasz deserves it. He's had a fantastic season and it shows how committed he is to the club," said Swansea manager Garry Monk.

"It's a great signing for the rest of his team-mates, showing how much he's enjoyed what we are trying to do here."

After a season which saw him in contention to win the Premier League's 'Golden Gloves' award, the prize for the most clean sheets in a season, Fabianski had been linked with Italian Serie A side Roma.

But Monk says the new contract is not simply for making sure Swansea would receive a significant fee for Fabianski if he was to leave.

"The club has to protect itself," said Monk.

"These players are assets to the club, they're worth a lot of money. We protect ourselves in a certain sense but when players sign new contracts, they've earned it."
