Dundee United midfielder Rodney Sneijder has returned home to the Netherlands to undergo tests for what is believed to be a viral infection.

The 24-year-old fell ill last Wednesday and attended a Dundee hospital before travelling home the following day.

He will return to Tayside once the results of tests taking place early this week have been established.

It means Sneijder, who made his debut against Aberdeen last week, will miss Tuesday's derby at home to Dundee.
