Cardiff City boss Russell Slade says Sammy Ameobi needs to become stronger.

Winger Ameobi is on loan from Newcastle and Slade says he could become "a real handful" by working on his physique.

Slade says Cardiff "can't get a pair of tracksuit bottoms to fit his legs" so Ameobi, 23, wears long socks to "accommodate" them.

"He can get more strength for sure and if he's going to figure more, which he will do with us, then he's going to need that going forward," said Slade.

"But I think that would help him immensely.

"We are working really hard with him on all aspects."

Ameobi, who is 6ft 4in tall, made his Cardiff debut in Tuesday's League Cup win over Wimbledon.

And Slade says there is a "balance" to be struck between the time Ameobi spends in the gym and on the training ground.

"But he is such a size and we've got to nurse that," said Slade.

"He's so much to offer, but I think we can get him stronger body-wise and I think physically we can get him fitter."
