Irish Premiership: Cliftonville 4-0 Coleraine

Cliftonville continued their winning start to the new Premiership campaign as two Jay Donnelly goals helped the Reds see off Coleraine at Solitude.

After Sammy Morrow wasted a glorious early Coleraine chance, David McDaid scored a 29th-minute Reds penalty after David Ogilby had tackled Chris Curran.

Donnelly doubled Cliftonville's lead on 49 and he scored again on 52 after good work by McDaid.

Stephen Garrett curled in a fine fourth Reds goal six minutes from time.

As Coleraine had the better of the early exchanges, Morrow should have put the Bannsiders ahead after being put through but he blasted wide of Peter Burke's goal.

Reds keeper Burke then had to make a smart save to deny Rodney Brown as Coleraine continued to show early enterprise.

However, a controversial penalty call changed the course of the match with Coleraine unhappy at Keith Kennedy's decision to rule that Ogilby's challenge on the lively Curran had been a foul.

Cliftonville were well on their way to victory four minutes after the restart as Martin Donnelly set up his namesaker Jay to double the home team's advantage.

Youngster Donnelly, younger brother of Gillingham player Ruairi Donnelly, notched his second goal of the night on 52 after good work by former Coleraine man McDaid.

However, goal of the night was still to come as Garrett scored a delightful effort with six minutes left.

Cliftonville trail leaders Linfield on goal difference with Portadown the only other team in the Premiership to have maximum points after the opening two rounds of games.
