Scottish Cup: History makers Harestanes fall at first hurdle

Harestanes made history by becoming the first Scottish Amateur Cup winners to take part in the Scottish Cup but exited at the first hurdle.

The team who play in the Central Scottish Amateur Football League were beaten 3-0 by Ayrshire District League outfit Girvan in Kirkintilloch.

Goals from Rab Paterson, Mark Dyer and Craig Reid secured victory in the first preliminary round tie.

It was the first time the Amateur Cup winners had been invited to take part.

Harestanes manager Paul Marshall told BBC Scotland: "I'm very proud of the boys and they gave a good account of themselves.

"I don't think 3-0 was a fair reflection of the game as we played some really nice stuff.

"We were in this to win, but this competition was a bonus for us."

Girvan progress to face Lothian Thistle of the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division.

Among the other ties, Highland League outfit Cove Rangers hammered North Caledonian Football League champions Golspie Sutherland 6-1.

Cove will now host St Cuthbert's Wanderers, of the South of Scotland Football League, who defeated East of Scotland outfit Burntisland Shipyard 3-1.
