Queens Park Rangers have signed goalkeeper Alex Smithies from Championship rivals Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old made 274 appearances for the Terriers after coming through the Yorkshire club's youth system.

Smithies, who becomes QPR's 11th signing of the summer, has agreed a three-year deal at Loftus Road.

"This was a big decision but the timing was right for my career. QPR is the ideal opportunity for me," he said.

"Being at a club that was recently in the Premier League, there is going to be a lot of expectation to push on and improve, and I think I will thrive off that."
