Irish Premiership: Glentoran 2-1 Warrenpoint Town

Glentoran achieved their first Premiership win of the season thanks to two goals by striker Curtis Allen against Warrenpoint Town at the Oval.

Warrenpoint keeper Jonathan Parr saved an early Fra McCaffrey penalty but was beaten when Allen pounced from close-range for a 23rd-minute opener.

Town, without a point this season, equalised through Stephen Hughes with the last kick of the first half.

Allen hooked in a close-range winner in the 72nd minute.

The win hoists the Glens up to seventh on the table with five points from their opening four league fixtures.

For Warrenpoint, who escaped relegation last season by beating Bangor in the end-of-season play-off, it was a fourth successive defeat.

Along with Ballymena United, Barry Gray's side are at the foot of the table with no points.

It was tough on Warrenpoint who played some adventurous football.

Glentoran's penalty chance came after a hand ball offence when a free-kick had been delivered into the Swifts box in the fourth minute.

McCaffrey's spot-kick was saved by Parr and Conor McMenamin's two attempts to force in the rebound were blocked.

Daniel Hughes of Warrenpoint then had a shot from just outside the area come off the post.

The Glens made the breakthrough midway through the half when Stephen McAlorum's bye-line delivery set up a tap-in finish for striker Allen.

Warrenpoint created some chances and home keeper Aaron Hogg pulled off saves to deny Daniel Hughes and Padraig Smith, while Stephen Hughes blasted over.

Town, without an away league win since September, levelled matters with the last kick of the first half, Stephen Hughes making room to shoot into the net.

But Allen had the final say by firing into the roof of the net for the Glens.
