Wright has dropped a division to join Dumbarton

Veteran defender Frazer Wright has joined Championship side Dumbarton after being released from St Johnstone.

The 36-year-old - who made 29 appearances for the Perth club last season - started training with his new team-mates on Monday.

"Frazer is someone we looked at when we first came in to the club," said Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken of the 2014 Scottish Cup winner.

"He'll give us options both defensively and in midfield."

Wright moved to St Johnstone from Kilmarnock in 2011 and left the Perth club just two months after agreeing a one-year contract extension.

Midfielder Scott Brown moved from Saints to Sons at the weekend, appearing as a substitute in Saturday's 2-0 loss at Queen of the South.

The 20-year-old will stay on loan with Dumbarton until January.

Former Ross County striker Steven Ross, 21, has also signed up for Aitken's side.
