Irish Premiership: Ballymena Utd 1-1 Carrick Rangers

Allan Jenkins equalised with a minute left to give 10-man Ballymena their first Premiership point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Carrick Rangers.

Jim Ervin was dismissed in the opening minute for a last-man foul on Miguel Chines, who stepped up to score from the resulting penalty.

Aaron Harmon's header struck the United woodwork while striker Matthew Shevlin went close for Ballymena.

Jenkins smashed in a late volley to move the Sky Blues off bottom spot.

Ballymena captain Ervin was dismissed against Linfield earlier this month and he was red-carded again just seconds into the Showgrounds encounter.

The defender's tug on Chines as he raced through appeared to be just outside the box but the spot-kick was awarded by referee Keith Kennedy.

Chines calmly slotted home but Carrick failed to capitalise on the extra man, with the hosts earning a deserved draw.

Shelvin headed in but his effort was ruled out for a foul and the young forward blasted over before Harmon found a post with his header.

Rangers managed to scramble the ball away after a Jenkins header early in the second half, while United keeper Dwayne Nelson kept out Mark Miskimmin's shot.

The leveller came in the 89th minute with Jenkins perfectly placed to send his powerful volley past Carrick keeper Brian Neeson.

It earned Glenn Ferguson's side a first point in five games and lifts them above Warrenpoint Town into 11th, three places below Carrick.
