Marc-Antoine Fortune signs one-year Coventry City contract

Marc-Antoine Fortune played under Coventry boss Tony Mowbray at West Brom and Celtic.

Coventry City have signed striker Marc-Antoine Fortune on a one-year deal following his exit from Wigan Athletic at the end of last season.

Fortune, 34, first brought to England by Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray during his time at West Bromwich Albion, had been training with the Sky Blues.

He played in the French and Dutch leagues before his Albion move, then Mowbray took him to Scotland at Celtic.

"He will bring a bit more physicality," said City manager Mowbray.

"Marc has trained with the club for the past week and I'm delighted we've finally been able to get him signed up. I signed him at Celtic and West Bromwich Albion. He's played in the Premier League and Champions League for me. He'll give a physical presence up front and bring plenty of experience to the squad, which the young players can tap into."

The French-Guyana-born attacker becomes City's ninth signing since Mowbray took charge in March - and their fourth successive front player.

Coventry currently lie fifth in League One, having started with three straight wins, thanks to five goals in three games for on-loan Adam Armstrong.

But the Newcastle United youngster has not scored in the Sky Blues' last two games - the 2-1 defeat at Walsall and last weekend's 2-2 draw at home to Southend.

Fortune goes into the squad for Sunday's trip to fellow early season high fliers Burton Albion (14:30 BST).
