Wrexham moved up to second in the National League as they returned to winning ways with victory over Altrincham.

The home side's domination paid off when Connor Jennings' shot hit Scott Leather and the ball looped over Tim Deasy.

Blaine Hudson's header doubled the lead but Michael Rankine replied after the break.

James Gray restored the two-goal cushion and secure Wrexham's sixth win.

Gary Mills's side maintained their 100% home record while Altrincham still await their first away win of the season.

Wrexham manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio Wales: "Two nil up, it's a dangerous score and we didn't come out for the second half. They started slightly better and we were too open for their goal.

"It put us on the back foot for a while but we got the goal back quickly, which was important. We showed a lot of character.

"It's nice to get three points. We'll enjoy this for 24 hours and then we have to go to my old club [Gateshead] on Tuesday."
