Irish Premiership: Carrick Rangers 1-2 Warrenpoint Town

Warrenpoint Town claimed their first win of the Irish Premiership season thanks to goals by Conor McDonald and Mark Clarke away to Carrick Rangers.

McDonald made the breakthrough in the 25th minute by following up to net from close-range after home keeper Brian Neeson had saved well from Mark Hughes.

Mark Clarke bundled in from close-range after Mark Hughes had played the ball in on 61 minutes.

Carrick substitute Miguel Chines pulled a goal back with a penalty.

The spot-kick was awarded when Paudie Smyth brought down Aaron Harmon and gave Chines the opportunity to score his fourth goal of the season.

Winning manager's verdict

"It was an important three points and a performance to match," said Warrenpoint manager Barry Gray.

"Teams will find it difficult coming to Carrick. There are pitch difficulties and it could be a little fortress.

"For us, it is just about building on the momentum now. We have had a decent week with the draw against Cliftonville, followed by a cup win and this win."
