Man City manager Nick Cushing says his side will "try and get close to Chelsea" as they chase the WSL1 title

Manchester City Women's manager Nick Cushing says he expects Chelsea Ladies to pip his side to this season's Women's Super League One title.

Isobel Christiansen scored as City beat Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday to go second in the table, five points behind the London club with a game in hand.

Chelsea will be crowned champions if they win their last two games - at Liverpool and at home to Sunderland.

"I think Chelsea will win two more games," Cushing told BBC Sport.

"I don't think they'll slip up now, they're on a bit of a roll.

"We've had to be really patient about getting into second and we've finally got there."

City's final three matches will see them host Liverpool, Bristol Academy and Notts County.

The top two will qualify for European football and, while Cushing says his team will "try and get close to Chelsea", he said finishing second would mark a successful season.

"Champions League football was the goal from day one at the start of this year and we are only two years into this project," he said.

"To win a trophy in the first season and to get Champions League football in the second means we're on track with how we want to grow this team.

"Eventually we want to win leagues and hopefully that's round the corner, but we're unbeaten since the World Cup so we've just got prepare to go and win the game against Liverpool on Thursday."
