Wolves: Kevin McDonald signs new three-year Molineux deal

Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald has signed a new three-year contract with the Championship club.

The 26-year-old Scot played a major part in Wolves' promotion back to the Championship in April 2014.

He is just two short of 100 appearances for the club since arriving at Molineux from Sheffield United in August 2013.

But he was in the last season of a three-year deal and, after speculation about his future, had not started Wolves' last two league games.

He came off the bench following Conor Coady's early second-half red card in last Saturday's 0-0 home draw with Championship leaders Brighton, but started Tuesday's League Cup defeat by Middlesbrough.

McDonald follows the lead of two Wolves team-mates who have both also signed new contracts this week.

Winger James Henry has signed a new two-year deal, with the option for a further 12 months, while defender Matt Doherty has agreed a three-year contract.

"One of the collection of issues that have affected Wolves in the opening weeks of the season has now finally been dealt with.

"Speculation over Kevin McDonald's future, heightened by the player expressing his frustration publicly in the summer amid interest from Fulham, has done neither the player nor his employers any good.

"Exactly what has concentrated minds to bring the matter to a close is now irrelevant. But it would be a major surprise if McDonald does not now start at Preston at Deepdale on Saturday, having been left out of the last two league games.

"That might be timely as Wolves have very much missed the good form he has shown for the last two seasons, when he was involved in most of their best work."
