Walsall remain second after maintaining their unbeaten away record in League One against Wigan Athletic.

But the Saddlers could not take advantage of having an extra man for much of the last half hour after Latics captain Craig Morgan was red carded.

Morgan got a straight red for his foul on Saddlers winger Kieran Morris.

Bescot set for top of the table battle

By staying second, on goal difference from Bury, Walsall set up a top-of-the-table clash with leaders Burton at the Banks's Stadium next weekend.

Despite dominating the closing stages, they were unable to force a winner, which would have been harsh on the home side, who dominated the first half.

With two former Saddlers strikers, Will Grigg and Jordy Hiwula, leading their line, the home side bossed the first half.

Hiwula fired over from a good position, while Michael Jacobs had two efforts and new on-loan Middlesbrough signing Yanic Wildschut twice forced good saves from Neil Etheridge after coming on at half time.

Grigg then twice missed badly before Morgan was sent off for tripping Morris on the edge of the area in the 69th minute, but, although having to settle for a point, Gary Caldwell's relegated Wigan remain unbeaten at home in five League One matches this season.
