Former Sheffield United CEO Julian Winter made over 100 appearances for Huddersfield but his career was cut short by injury

Notts County have appointed Julian Winter as chief executive officer.

Winter, who has held similar roles at Sheffield United and Watford, replaces Aileen Trew who stood down in August.

He said: "I have a broad experience within football and within the Football League that I will be looking to bring to Meadow Lane.

"Notts County is an impressive club, which is steeped in history and tradition, and everyone here is pulling towards promotion to League One."

Winter left Huddersfield for Sheffield United as a player in 1989, but sustained career-ending ligament damage just a week before the season started.

He went on to work for Grimsby and Watford before two separate spells as chief executive of the Blades.

Notts County chairman Ray Trew added: "The work Julian has done at the previous football clubs has been at has been very impressive and everyone at the football club is delighted to have Julian on board."
