Laura Bassett: Notts can heal FA Cup wounds in Continental Cup

Captain Laura Bassett says the Continental Cup offers Notts County a chance to recover from the trauma of losing the Women's FA Cup final.

The Magpies, beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in front of a record Women's FA Cup final crowd in August's decider at Wembley, face Liverpool in Sunday's semi-final.

Notts finished fifth in Women's Super League One, two spots above Liverpool.

"We are looking to get to another final and to heal the wounds of the FA Cup final," Bassett told BBC WM 95.6.

Notts defender Amy Turner said the Lady Magpies are determined to make it up to their fans by reaching and winning the last match of the domestic campaign at Rotherham's New York Stadium on 1 November.

"We are playing for them as much as ourselves," Turner told BBC Sport.

"It is another chance to get to a final and actually win it this time. It is for the fans as well, they have supported us all year and they deserve to get something back.

"They were there at Wembley, for me that was really emotional, and to not win and give back something to the city and fans was very disappointing. If we can get this trophy it might make some amends."

Versatile Notts defender Alex Greenwood reiterated Turner and Bassett's sentiment and is focused on finishing her first season at Meadow Lane with the club's maiden trophy in hand.

"This is how we can make amends, we can come away with some silverware," Greenwood told BBC Sport.

"Our backroom staff has worked hard to recruit players and with the team that we have got there is no reason that we should finish the season without some sort of silverware.

It is the fifth successive year that the Notts franchise - previously known as Lincoln Ladies - has reached the semi-finals of the competition.

The last match the club played before its rebrand and relocation to Meadow Lane in Nottingham was the 2013 Continental Cup final loss to Arsenal.
