Clinton Morrison: Exeter striker scores 'the best' goal of his career

Striker Clinton Morrison says his goal for Exeter City against Stevenage was the best of his 17-year career.

The ex-Crystal Palace and Birmingham forward scored an overhead kick in the 3-3 draw to end a 50-game goal drought that stretched back to January 2014.

"I've scored some good ones at Palace and for the Republic of Ireland, unbelievable ones, but that's got to be the best," said Morrison.

"I didn't think at 36 I could get my legs that high. I'm buzzing."

Morrison's last goal came for Colchester in a 3-0 win over Gillingham in League One in January 2014, and last month he said how he was "desperate" to score for the Grecians.

"I can get that monkey off my back now and hopefully go and get a few more," added Morrison.

"I know now I'll start scoring goals - I'm confident, I just needed that first goal.

"I haven't scored a goal for a year and a half. I've been in the right areas but the ball hasn't really been dropping for me, so it's frustrating.

"I've been a goalscorer throughout my career, but for the last three or four years it hasn't worked out for whatever reason.

"I'll be the first one to say I could probably have done better, but today it fell for me, I managed to score and I could have had another one which maybe on another day I would have scored. But I'm happy with that, just disappointed with the result."
