Juventus have only won three of their 10 Serie A matches this season

Italian champions Juventus suffered another shock defeat as they slipped 11 points behind new Serie A leaders Roma.

Juve's poor start had been steadied by a three-game unbeaten run, only for Sassuolo to end it through Nicola Sansone's sublime first-half free-kick.

Defeat left the Old Lady in 12th place, while minnows Sassuolo rose to fifth.

Roma, runners-up in the past two seasons, reclaimed top spot as goals from Miralem Pjanic, Maicon and Gervinho sealed a 3-1 win over Udinese.

The Giallorossi, who face fourth-placed Inter Milan at the weekend, are two points clear having lost just once in the league this season.

Second-placed Napoli claimed their fifth win in a row, beating Palermo thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Dries Mertens.

Fiorentina are level on points with Napoli after ending a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 victory at second-bottom Verona.

Rafael Marquez's own goal and a sixth league strike of the season from former Blackburn striker Nikola Kalinic ensured Paulo Sousa's men returned to winning ways.

AC Milan's 16-year-old keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept his first senior clean sheet as the Rossoneri beat Chievo 1-0 through Luca Antonelli's second-half strike.
