Russell Slade rues Cardiff City striking 'problem'

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says his side needs to add a cutting edge in attack to their defensive strength.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at Ipswich Town was the Bluebirds' fourth consecutive clean sheet, but three of those games have also been goalless stalemates.

Cardiff are ninth in the Championship and face struggling Leeds on Tuesday.

"We are on a good run at the minute, from a defensive point of view, but clearly our problems are at the other end," Slade admitted.

"I do see it as a very good point as Ipswich is always a difficult place to come - and it has been a very difficult place for Cardiff in the past.

"We actually had more shots than Ipswich and we had one or two good chances in the second half but our options up front are limited at the minute.

"We will keep working at it. We need to get more bodies in the box and be more ruthless when we have chances.

"Sometimes when you go away, you are not going to get many chances and we need to start turning some of these games into 1-0 wins."

Cardiff's scoring problem could be helped on Tuesday by the possible return of striker Kenwyne Jones.

The 31-year-old has missed the last four games since picking up a shin injury on international duty with Trinidad and Tobago.

Slade has also been without Federico Macheda since the former Manchester United striker had back surgery in September. New signing Idriss Saadi is also working his way back to fitness after a long-term knee injury.

Kagisho Dikgacoi missed the game at Portman Road on Saturday with a hamstring strain that is also likely to rule the midfielder out of the trip to Leeds.

Defender Fabio is also a major doubt with a foot injury suffered against Ipswich that required an X-ray, with Cardiff awaiting the results of that scan.
