Hibs 3-0 Dundee Utd: Alan Stubbs hails hosts' victory

Alan Stubbs hailed an "immense" performance from his Hibernian side against Dundee United.

Hibs beat United 3-0 to join Celtic, Ross County and St Johnstone in Monday's League Cup semi-final draw.

"I think we've been really professional," said Stubbs. "I don't mind who we play or where we play.

"We want to try to avoid Celtic, if possible. I think everybody whose still in there would, but if it's meant to be, it's meant to be."

David Gray struck to give the hosts an early lead, which was doubled when Jason Cummings converted a second-half penalty following a handball by John Rankin. Lewis Stevenson's late deflected strike completed the win.

"We really took it to Dundee United," Stubbs told BBC Scotland. "The lads have been immense.

"We've got a really talented group of players. We're going to need everybody throughout the season.

"We're just delighted. The dressing room is absolutely buzzing.

"We've come through a difficult game and we can look forward to the draw next week now."

'Long winter' for United

The Dundee United bench endured a difficult evening in Edinburgh

United head coach Mixu Paatelainen conceded that "Hibs totally deserved their victory".

"We were off the pace totally," he continued. "Passing wasn't good enough.

"All credit to the Hibs players, their movement was excellent and we didn't match that."

Paatelainen's side are bottom of the top flight and face Aberdeen on Saturday.

"We have a big job, that's nothing new," Paatelainen added. "We knew that beforehand.

"Of course we can turn this around. It's going to be a long winter for us.

"We're not looking for a quick fix. Of course we'll take it if there is.

"We're prepared to work and make this right."
