Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena left out of France squad

Mathieu Valbuena and Karim Benzema are not in the France squad for friendlies against Germany and England, external this month.

Coach Didier Deschamps says Lyon midfielder Valbuena, 31, is not in the right frame of mind after an alleged attempt to extort money from him.

Benzema, 27, was has been placed under formal investigation by French police in relation to a sex tape involving his international team-mate.

The Real Madrid striker, who maintains his innocence, has a thigh injury.

Benzema was questioned by police on Wednesday and Thursday and banned from contacting Valbuena or anyone charged in the case.

Deschamps said he spoke to Benzema on Monday and chose to leave him out as he was "not ready physically".

"Concerning the police case, I have no knowledge of the matter," he added. "I will leave the police to deal with it."

It is the first time Valbuena has been left out of a squad since Deschamps took charge after Euro 2012.

Deschamps said: "Mathieu has not been performing as well with Lyon, but you understand he is not in the best condition psychologically.

"I will give him some breathing space for these two games."

On Thursday, Benzema met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez,, external who said he was confident the player's "actions were in good faith and that he is completely innocent".

Former Newcastle forward Hatem Ben Arfa has been called up for the first time since Euro 2012, having scored seven goals in 12 matches for Nice in Ligue 1 this season.

Euro 2016 hosts France face Germany at the Stade de France on 13 November before meeting England at Wembley four days later.
