Ivan Toney: Newcastle United striker loaned to Barnsley

Barnsley have signed Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney on an initial 28-day loan.

The 19-year-old joined the Magpies in August and has made three appearances so far for the Premier League club.

He began his career at Northampton Town, where he scored 13 goals in 60 senior games.

Former Barnsley winger Adam Hammill has signed a short-term contract with the Oakwell club after being released by Huddersfield Town two months ago.

Head coach Lee Johnson told the club website:, external "Ivan is quick and he's a goal-threat. He's just what we need in the final third.

"We're all excited to have him in the dressing room because he can be add that bit of quality in the final third."

Both players will be available for Tuesday's Football League Trophy game against York City.

Barnsley are currently in 22nd place in League One after seven consecutive league defeats and were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by non-league Altrincham.
