Oldham Athletic 2-5 Southend United

Southend United survived an Oldham fightback to defeat the League One strugglers and move up to eighth.

Jack Payne and David Mooney strikes had the visitors 2-0 ahead at the break.

David Worrall headed in Payne's shot to make it 3-0, but Michael Higdon's 12-yard strike and header from Liam Kelly's cross, just after he had missed a penalty, pulled two back for Oldham.

But from the restart Payne's cross was turned in by Will Atkinson, before Luke Prosser's six-yard header sealed it.
