Dundee-Celtic: United States could host Scottish Premiership match

Celtic have won the past five meetings with Dundee

Dundee could play Celtic in the United States next season, the first time a Scottish league game will have been held overseas.

The Premiership sides are in advanced talks and it is understood the only remaining requirement is the approval of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).

A formal proposal is set to be put before the SPFL in the next few weeks.

Boston and Philadelphia are possible host cities.

Talks between Dundee and Celtic and representatives in the United States have been ongoing for some time.

"The SPFL board would require to sanction any move for a league game to be played overseas," read an SPFL statement.

"To date the SPFL has not received any application from any member club for any games to be played overseas."

Texas-based chairman Tim Keyes and managing director John Nelms took over ownership of Dundee in 2013.

Celtic, who have played friendlies in the USA, revealed in October they were considering starting a franchise in the country.

Dundee, who lost 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, host Celtic at Dens Park on 30 December, their only scheduled home game against them this season.
