FA Cup: Oxford United 1-0 Forest Green Rovers

  • Published

Oxford United beat Forest Green Rovers to reach the FA Cup third round thanks to Kemar Roofe's second-half winner.

The League Two leaders were kept out for 75 minutes by Rovers keeper Steve Arnold before Roofe's fierce, bouncing shot from outside the area won the tie.

Forest Green's best chance fell to midfielder Darren Carter on the turn, but his shot was saved by Benji Buchel.

Charlie Clough also headed wide late on for the National League side, but Oxford held on to win an even game.

Oxford have now won their last five FA Cup ties against non-league sides.

Meanwhile, Forest Green have not reached the third round since 2009-10.

Forest Green boss Ady Pennock told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"I thought we had some good chances, but to come here and the way we played, we gave Oxford a good game today.

"We had some half chances, but you need to take them

"The the lad Roofe's a very good player and it was a good finish, but all in all I'm very proud of the lads, they're bitterly disappointed.

"I'd like to thanks the fans as well - they turned up in their numbers and were fantastic and we've got to be positive, we've had a very good cup run, we've got to move on and wish Oxford all the best."
