Ipswich Town: Mick McCarthy praises 'selfless' Freddie Sears

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy has praised Freddie Sears' "selfless" attitude after the striker ended an 11-game run without a goal against Charlton.

Sears' goal - sandwiched between two Daryl Murphy efforts - helped Town win 3-0 in the Championship.

"Freddie has been awesome and selfless in what he does, and I'm as relieved as anybody he's scored," said McCarthy.

"I keep saying to him 'it's great, I'm loving what you're doing', but he wants to score - I'm thrilled for him."

The Tractor Boys have taken 12 points from their last six games and won three of the last four to leave them seventh in the table.

Sears' goal just before half-time came after Murphy - who himself had a goal drought at the start of the season - put Town ahead with his sixth in three games.

"I've been looking for it for the last couple of weeks, obviously I've been playing a little bit deeper so sometimes it's a bit harder to get involved in the goals," Sears told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"As a striker you always want to get the next goal - I started the season so well with four in six and then you go a while without scoring.

"But I've been playing well and getting the chances. If you aren't getting chances then you start to worry a bit."
