Mark Hughes: Stoke City boss open to doing business in January

Mark Hughes has guided Stoke into the semi-finals of the League Cup this season

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says he will try to strengthen his squad in January, but only if the right sort of players become available.

The Potters are 11th in the Premier League after a run of one win in their last four games.

"We've got a few ideas, whether they'll lead to anything we'll have to wait and see," Hughes told BBC Radio Stoke.

"If the right players are available we'll certainly have conversations with the people you need to talk to."

Hughes oversaw a significant investment in the playing squad during the summer, including record signing Xherdan Saqiri.

And, with the transfer window close to re-opening, Hughes says his squad is not desperate for major new arrivals.

"I don't think there's any urgency to really address issues in the team," said Hughes. "The squad's strong and we've got players coming back from injury.

"It may be that if we don't do anything this January we keep our powder dry and wait until the summer."

Meanwhile, Hughes also says he is not expecting any players to leave the Britannia Stadium next month following reports linking their former Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic with a move away from the Potters.

"I don't think there will be, to be honest - there's always speculation about good players," added Hughes.

"People will always have interest in good players and covert them. At the moment we're a strong unit and enjoying what we're doing."
