Bottom side Warrenpoint Town remain nine points adrift of Carrick Rangers after the sides drew 1-1 at Milltown.

Daniel Kelly put Carrick in front with a header from a Miguel Chines corner in the 17th minute.

Kyle Cherry had a header cleared off the line but Sean Donnelly equalised on 33, reacting quickest to score from close range after Brian Neeson had spilled a Daniel Hughes shot.

Neeson saved well from Stephen Murray in the second half.

Warrenpoint could also have secured all three points when Brian McCaul clipped the ball against his own crossbar.

What they said

Warrenpoint manager Barry Gray: "We created a lot of chances in the second half and are maybe a bit frustrated not to get the three points.

"We took a few calculated risks as a win would have been important for us - a draw doesn't change very much with regard to our position."

Carrick Rangers manager Gary Haveron: "A draw was probably a fair result. The most important thing for us was not to lose the game.

"Our back four was fantastic and our goalkeeper superb. I asked the players to look after themselves at this time of year and to a man they have not let me down."
