Peter Ramage: Coventry City sign experienced defender

Ramage's most recent first team appearance was out on loan at League One side Barnsley last season.

League One promotion hopefuls Coventry City have signed defender Peter Ramage on a deal until the end of the season.

After a week-long trial, City have signed the 32-year old ex-Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Birmingham City and Crystal Palace centre-half on a deal which expires on 30 June.

Ramage joined Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters this summer following the end of his stay with Palace,

The southern-India based club are owned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

"Peter has a wealth of experience," said Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray. "He's a player who I see challenging for a spot in my starting XI week-in, week-out."

"One of my main objectives was to add to our defensive options. We've been short in that area. especially over the Christmas period."

The Sky Blues boss remains hopeful of keeping hold of 16-goal top scorer Adam Armstrong, who is on loan from Newcastle United, as well as tying up Aston Villa's former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole for the rest of the season.

City lie fourth in League One, four points off top spot, ahead of next Tuesday night's promotion clash at home to third-placed Walsall.

Ramage in India

Having initially been signed by ex-England Under-21 manager Peter Taylor, Ramage played under former Wimbledon and Manchester City defender Terry Phelan.

He played alongside ex-Sky Blues keeper Stephen Bywater in a squad that included five other English players, including defender Marcus Williams and wingers Sanchez Watt and Antonio German.
