Kevin Nicholson hopeful new forwards can keep Torquay safe

Nathan Blissett failed to score in his three appearances for Bristol Rovers this season

Kevin Nicholson is hopeful Torquay's new-look forward line can lead the National League side to safety.

Former Bristol Rovers striker Nathan Blissett and Worcester City's Shaun Harrad joined this week, while Andre Wright returned on loan from West Brom.

Tyrone Marsh, who has scored five goals in his last seven matches, completes the forward quartet.

"We now have four centre-forwards who will hopefully fire us to where we want to be," Nicholson told BBC Radio Devon.

"All of them will be expecting to start and I'll have decisions to make but they need to see themselves as a union, rather than against each other.

"If they can score six goals each between now and the end of the season, then we stay up."

Nicholson said that the Gulls, who are languishing in 23rd and seven points from safety, were still looking to add a midfield player to the squad, but was otherwise pleased with the make up of his team.

The 35-year-old said competition for places in the starting XI would help the team going forward.

"The players know with the depth that the squad now has with the new signings, that there will be a fight for your place," Nicholson added.

"The best teams are the ones where no-one is comfortable and I now have options all over the pitch.

"I'm not big on rotation but at the same time I want my fittest, strongest team ready to go out there."
