Irish Premiership: Warrenpoint Town 3-0 Coleraine

Stephen Murray bagged a double as bottom club Warrenpoint Town secured their second league win of the season by convincingly defeating Coleraine.

Murray opened the scoring a minute before the break and headed in his second two minutes after the interval.

Martin Murray added the third by smashing into the top corner after the ball broke kindly to him on 66 minutes.

Warrenpoint's other Premiership win came against Carrick Rangers back on 5 September and they now have 10 points.

Barry Gray's team lie six points behind Carrick, who have three games in hand, but the home side will be boosted by keeping their first clean sheet in 28 league and cup matches this season.

Warrenpoint had shown improved form in recent weeks, taking a point from each of their last three league outings, but the Bannsiders had put six unanswered goals past the County Down side in the previous two meetings between the sides.

Ruairi Harkin went close for Coleraine early in the game while Michael Doherty was forced into a fine save by Town debutant Tiernan Mulvenna.

Stephen Murray shot home after Mulvenna had nodded the ball down to him, then Martin Murray almost added a second with a free-kick from the edge of the box.

Murray met Liam Bagnall's corner to complete his brace, before Martin ensured the three points and Johnny McMurray saw a late penalty saved.

Warrenpoint Town manager Barry Gray: "This was an important three points for us - it was a great performance and a great result, which can hopefully kick-start our season.

"The players believed in what we are trying to do and that is play attractive football. They stuck to what we told them to do and we ran out convincing winners.

"Hopefully we can build on this when we take on Portadown on Tuesday night. The players we have brought in have injected some hunger and desire into the team and that has rubbed off on the other players."
