Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has called for fans to "stick with" his side as they look to avoid relegation.

The Alex sit bottom of League One, seven points from safety after losing four of their last five matches.

"We are in another battle and we have to show resolve and fight to come through it again," Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I don't want relegation fights every season, it is not healthy for us. We want better than that."

Crewe narrowly escaped relegation in the previous two season, finishing two points above the drop zone in 2015 and four points clear of the bottom four in 2014.

Their form came in stark contrast to the 2012/13 season, which saw them win 18 league matches to finish 13th in the table and clinch the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley in their first season back in England's third-tier competition.

"The fans will remember the good times we had a couple of seasons ago," Davis said.

"I know that I have got the support of the majority of the supporters and that is encouraging for me because you need that support in difficult times.

"We would love to change the course of history, be able to be in this league for as long as we can and be challenging for more than just that."
