Word Cup final: Denbigh Town 0-2 The New Saints

The New Saints retained The Word Cup with victory over Cymru Alliance side Denbigh Town in the final at Llandudno's Maesdu Park.

Matty Williams' close range header from man of the match Chris Marriott's cross gave Saints the lead on 25 minutes.

Mike Wilde's header sealed a seventh League Cup win for Saints, who were made to battle all the way by Denbigh.

Gareth Thomas' side had beaten three Welsh Premier League sides to reach the Word Cup final.

"I thought first half we were very good but second half weren't the best," New Saints manager Craig Harrison said.

"Maybe a little bit of complacency crept in.

"I thought Denbigh were excellent in the second half and they're a credit to their league and a credit to the club.

"The aim was to get that first trophy and we want another two with the league and Welsh Cup.

"That's always been the aim from the start of the season."

The TNS win came on the day they expressed "shock" at having been issued with a winding up order at the High Court in London.
