Oxford United forward Chris Maguire says he turned down offers from clubs above League Two in order to make his move back to the Kassam Stadium.

The Scotland international, 27, returned on a deal until the end of the season on transfer deadline day.

Maguire made nine appearances on loan for the U's earlier in the season, before his release by Rotherham.

"My main focus now is to help Oxford, my aim was to come back here and push us on," he told BBC Radio Oxford.

Maguire played just six times for Rotherham after moving across South Yorkshire from Sheffield Wednesday in July 2015 and admitted frustration at his lack of opportunities.

"Since I went back there after my loan spell, I had been trying to get this move done and sorted," he said.

"It's important as a footballer to play games. I went back there wanting to play, but things weren't going right and I wanted away.

"There were a few offers from teams higher up (than Oxford United), but I've turned those down and we will see what happens in the summer."
