Newcastle United gossip: 'McClaren prepared for sack'

The Sun claims that Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has told friends he is ready for the sack.

A roll call of head coach Steve McClaren's failures this season hammers the point home, along with calls for "11 players in black and white shirts that understand their role to perform to their maximum - week in, week out".

And away from McClaren, injury-strewn French winger Sylvain Marveaux is said to be calling time on his spell at the club when his contract expires in three months' time. He signed in 2011 from Rennes but has made just 13 Premier League starts. (Chronicle)
