Boss Brian McDermott kept his Reading side in the changing room for 45 minutes following their defeat by Brighton on Tuesday.

McDermott, 54, told BBC Radio Berkshire he held a conversation with the players about how to take them forward.

"The conversation that we had in there will stay in there," McDermott said.

James Wilson's first-half strike was enough to prevent the Royals taking anything from the game and the defeat left them 15th in the table.

"We're very disappointed that we've lost the game, especially with a good chance for Ola John towards the end," McDermott said.

"We had a conversation about where we've got to be going forward. It was very straightforward.

"I know what this club's about and I look back and think probably since 2012 (the year Reading were last promoted to the Premier League), we've possibly lost our way.

"We need to get back to what this club's about. I'm looking forward to that happening."
