Jamille Matt: Plymouth Argyle's on-loan striker looks to 'kick on' with Pilgrims

Jamille Matt hopes he can use his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle as a springboard for the rest of his career.

The 26-year-old striker joined the Pilgrims on a month's loan from Fleetwood Town last week, having missed last season with injury.

"Every time I started to pick a bit of form up or start to play well I get another injury, so it's just bad luck I suppose," Matt told BBC Radio Devon.

"But I'm looking to put that behind me and kick on for the rest of my career."

Matt, who is out of contract in the summer, had a spell on loan at Stevenage this season, as well as playing 21 times for Fleetwood, and has scored four times in total this term.

"It's a massive club. I spoke to a few people about that and I was excited at the opportunity because I know how big a club Plymouth is," he said.

"I'd rather be fighting for something than go to a team that's not able to achieve anything, so that's a massive part of the reason why I'm here."

Third-placed Plymouth can count on Matt's experience of wining promotion from League Two with Fleetwood two years ago, and he comes in as a direct replacement for Ryan Brunt, who injured knee ligaments earlier this month.

"We've got good competition for places there now," said manager Derek Adams.

"He's got a good presence about him, he can take the ball in, is good in the air and good on the ground as well and he'll hopefully suit our style.

"We've got 10 games to go and we need to get going and really finish the season strongly."
