Darren Sarll: Stevenage season 'can never happen again'

Stevenage caretaker manager Darren Sarll says the club cannot repeat the struggles of this League Two season.

Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Bristol Rovers ensured Boro's Football League status.

"It's a little bit of pressure off us now. I think we can look with a longer-term view in the type of sides we put out in relation to what we want to achieve next year," said Sarll.

"But most importantly we've all got to look at this season and say this can never happen again."

He continued to BBC Three Counties Radio: "We've got to make sure we build and make the right signings and acquisitions over the summer to make sure this is not the case again."

Sarll has been in caretaker charge since Teddy Sheringham was sacked on 1 February with the club 19th in the fourth tier.

Boro have won four of Sarll's 14 matches in charge, and are 10 points clear of the relegation zone with three games left to play following the point against Rovers, who are chasing automatic promotion.

"This is my football club and I've been a supporter and worked through all the levels of the club and it means a great deal to me as it does to the chairman, players and all the staff that work here," said Sarll.

"For us to know we're a Football League club is a nice feeling, but there's no celebration going on, because we haven't achieved anything. We've just made sure we've got another year to go and achieve something in the future.

"I want people to hold onto the performance against Bristol Rovers and look into the future and say we have got some good players here and if we can get ourselves off to the right start next year, who knows."
