Portsmouth beat Hartlepool but results elsewhere ended any hope of securing automatic promotion from League Two.

Wins for Accrington, Oxford and Bristol Rovers meant Pompey will have to settle for a play-off spot, which they sealed with Tuesday's win at Wimbledon.

Kal Naismith gave the visitors the lead after the break with a close-range finish from Gareth Evans' tee up.

Conor Chaplin secured three points for Portsmouth late on with a low finish past Pools goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

Portsmouth recorded a third successive victory and moved up a place to fifth in the League Two table, while Hartlepool remain 16th as they slipped to a second home defeat in a row.
