Former Scotland and Leicester City defender Matt Elliott says he cannot see anyone mirroring his former club's remarkable season north of the border.

Having started the season at 5000/1 to win the English Premier League, the Foxes will be crowned champions this weekend if they beat Manchester United.

Elliott thinks something similar is "very unlikely" in Scotland.

"The financial gap between Celtic and, in the very near future, Rangers proves very difficult in Scotland," he said.

"Certain clubs like Aberdeen this year have threatened.

"More often than not, teams like that just tail off due to a lack of depth as much as anything in the squad."

Wandsworth-born Elliott, capped 18 times for Scotland from 1997, played for Leicester for eight years.

While discounting the chances of a similar challenge in Scotland, the 47-year-old believes that Leicester have shown what can be done if you get the right blend at a football club both on and off the park.

"Leicester haven't used that many players in terms of the squad," he added.

"They have a good unity, good tactical approach and a good spirit within the club and good players can make the impossible possible."
