The New Saints: Craig Harrison to turn attention to Champions League qualifiers

New Saints' victory over Airbus UK was their sixth Welsh Cup final win

The New Saints' Craig Harrison will focus on next season's Champions League qualifiers after securing a second successive domestic treble.

Saints beat Airbus UK 2-0 in the Welsh Cup final on Monday to add to the Welsh Premier title and Word Cup.

They will take a three-week break prior to resuming training for the Champions League qualifiers in June.

"There's no better club competition in the world," Harrison told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"The lads will have some rest and recovery and myself and the staff will be working hard to strengthen the squad. We'll be going from there when we know what the draw is," Harrison added.

Saints will enter the competition at the first qualifying round stage, with the draw set to take place on 20 June and first leg games played a week later.

Earlier this season Harrison's side beat B36 Torshavn of the Faroe Islands 6-1 on aggregate in the first qualifying round but narrowly lost to Hungarian side Videoton in the second qualifying round.

"We were very unfortunate last year," director of football Harrison continued, "I made no secret that it was probably one of the worst days I've had in football, getting beaten out there in extra-time.

"It was heart wrenching and I thought we'd done enough to go through."

The Oswestry-based club reached the Champions League third qualifying round in 2011-12, when they were beaten by Belgian giants Anderlecht.
