Carrick asked to respond in relegation wrangle

Ballinamallard beat Institute 2-1 in the first leg of the promotion/relegation play-off

The Irish FA has asked Carrick Rangers to respond to allegations that their manager Gary Haveron did not properly serve a touchline ban.

The club are in danger of being docked three points and that would see them being automatically relegated.

It is claimed that Haveron should not have been in the Carrick dugout for the match against Dungannon which they won.

If Carrick are relegated in bottom place, Warrenpoint would go into the play-off instead of Ballinamallard.

Carrick have been asked to submit their response by Friday morning.

Irish FA rules state that the sanction for a player or manager failing to serve a ban is a minimum £350 fine and the forfeiting of the match on a 3-0 score.

Tuesday's promotion/relegation play-off second leg between Ballinamallard United and Institute was postponed by the NI Football League.

Premiership side Ballinamallard had won the first leg at Institute 2-1.

Carrick Rangers beat Dungannon 3-1 on 23 April and the following week secured top flight survival with a late, dramatic win at home to Ballinamallard.
